Trip 1:
A day in Valldal: Where St Olav went ashore in 1029.
We can start this day in the local church, where we give you a brief orientation about how Christianity has shaped Norwegian society.
We will take you 1000 years back - to 1029, when king St Olav set his foot on shore on the beach. We can walk in his footsteps and take you on a short hike to the cross that St Olav erected on the hill behind the church.
From here we can take you to the place where you can drink water from St Olavs well. This well was blessed by Olav, and it was said that the water had healing power. We tell you amazing stories about St Olav`s days here in 1029. These miracles he performed here were among the things that led to his sainthood two years later.
Valldal is a place where the farmers grow strawberries, and in July you can taste the tastiest and sweetest strawberries ever. Jordbærstova (The strawberry-hut) is a good place to buy dinner!
Trip 2:
Guided hike a historic farm with a beautiful view.
The first leg of this hike is with boat to the dock beneath the farm. You need good shoes for the walk up to the farm, which is 350 meters above
sea-level..
The path is a very rugged one with a number of curves. If you are well fit, you can make it in one hour. Our advice is to enjoy the walk, as you see the amazing trail built with huge stones moved by hand by the people that lived here in the old days.
People have been living here since around year 1000! The breathtaking view and the history of this place will give you a truly unforgettable experience. We know the owners of the farm, and they will serve us refreshments and amazing stories about the life here in past days.
Trip 3:
A day in Geiranger
Geiranger is a stunning place, with towering mountains and fabulous waterfalls around the narrow fjord. We will take you to Storseterfossen, which is a waterfall that you can actually walk under.
The river falls off a cliff, and there is a trail built under it. The hike to this place will take about one hour each way.
Dalsnibba is our next destination, 1500 m above sea-level which is the highest altitute in Europe where you can go with car, and still see the ocean.
Here is a small restaurant where you can buy something to eat. From this place you can enjoy a breathtaking view of glaciers , mountains and The Geiranger Fjord.
Trip 4:
Trollstigen (The Troll`s Ladder)
The steep mountains. The deep valleys. The Winding roads. sights that go beyond your expectations.
We will take you from Valldal to Gudbrandsjuvet which is a 5 metre narrow and 20-25 metre high ravine, with a spectacular and powerful waterfall.
According to a myth from the 16th century, the ravine was named after a man called Gudbrand, who ran off with his new bride and saved himself from his angry pursuers by jumping over the ravine at its narrowest point.
The next stop is Trollstigen, an impressive mountain pass that twists through eleven hairpin bends up the steep mountain sides in Romsdal This road is only open in the summer months.
Trollstigen ( means Troll,s ladder) Is the location where the moovie Troll was made.
Trollstigen is surrounded by colossal mountains such as Bispen (Bishop - 1,462 m),
Kongen ( The King-1,614m) and Dronninga ( The Queen - 1,544 m)
The fourth season of Succession was filmed in the area.
Three impressive viewing platforms allow you to peer down onto the road and valley below.
The largest platform dangles above a drop of 200 m, you on the other hand are standing safely on a glass and steel construction.
Trip 5:
Bird-watching at Runde.
Runde is a place for watching sea-birds. Runde is an island where thousands of sea-birds are nesting. The Lunde-Bird ( also called sea-parrot) with it`s big, colourful beak will be a spectacular trophy in your collection of bird-photos.
From the parking, you will have to walk for about 30 minutes to get to the cliffs where the birds are.
At the Runde envionmental center you can get lots of information about life at sea.
A number of educational videos are very intersting for any environmentalist. Here is also information about a ship that sank here in 1725 with a huge amount of gold on board.
It was found by divers in 1972. And the story about it is amazing. If you care for the environment, you will get lots of information about the delicate balance of nature when it comes to life in the ocean.
Trip 6:
Norangsdalen
There is a breath of history over the name Norangsdalen. At the end of the 18th century, tourist ships anchored up at Øye. (the name of the centre) Many a famous name was transported by horse along the ancient road through the valley.
After the "Silver cruice" in 1993 to celebrate the Silver wedding of the King and Queen of Norway, Norangsdalen was given the name " The Queen Route".
The famous Hotel Union Øye is an attraction in itself. The hotel was "discovered" by Europe`s aristocracy and social elite in 1881, and has since then welcomed many famous kaisers and Kings.
Trip 7:
Another mountain farm, only for the well fit.
This is another spectacular mountain farm which is a "must see". The farm is 450 meters above sea level. We have a strenous walk ahead of us up to the farm. After a boat has taken us to the dock down by the fjord.
It has been a settlement here since the 17th century until 1954. This beautiful farm has a very interesting history and a magnificent view.
This walk is not for the ordinary tourist.
Eagle Safari
We can also offer an Eagle safari. The weather must be considered. The white tailed Eagle is nesting right across the fjord, and it is often looking for food.
To see the eagle catch fish is a sight that you will never forget. we need to go with a smaller boat for this event, so there is not room for more than 3 persons.
In the summer, the sun will shine until late, and it will be light all night. So - an eagles safari can be done as long as it is light.
