Valldal, the starting point
This is where St Olav, the viking King, left his 5 ships in January 1029. The reason he was appointed a Saint, is that he was the one that accepted Christianity in Norway. He was fleeing from his enemies, went ashore here, and he fled with 400 soldiers up the valley, and ended up in what is Ucraine today.
St Olav left many "foot-prints" in this place. We will tell you about it, and also show you some of them.
Hike to maountain farms - accessible on boat and foot only .
Gorgeous view - 350 meters above the fjord. People have lived here for at least 1000 years.
